Treasurer Rogers Visits Fort Scott Saturday to Reunite Kansans with their Money

FORT SCOTT—Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers Saturday visited Fort Scott, KS for the Good Ol' Days Festival and to continue on his tour of the state, working to return unclaimed property to thousands of Kansans.

“Since January our office has successfully reunited thousands of Kansans with $8,277,125 in unclaimed property, averaging about $200 for every claim returned,” said Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers. “There are so many people in every corner of the state who have no idea that they may have hundreds of dollars owed to them, waiting to be claimed. This weekend’s celebration in Fort Scott was an opportunity to get that money back in the pockets of Kansans.”

The State Treasurer’s Office located 10,173 unclaimed property claims worth $1,395,101 for Fort Scott-area residents. The largest of those unclaimed property claims is worth $51,790. During the Good Ol' Days Festival, Treasurer Rogers met with Kansans and showed them how to search their names in the Unclaimed Property dashboard. They were able to find about $400 for some attendees.

Unclaimed property can be any financial asset that has not been claimed by its owner or has not had any owner-generated activity for a specific period of time. Unclaimed property is not real estate.

Claiming unclaimed property through the Office of Kansas State Treasurer is always easy, safe, and free. Any website requesting credit card information or offering to find property for a fee is not the official website of the State Treasurer.
